The voice: a speech voice through a vocoder on one held chord cannot sing post-hardcore, so the lines follow a melody, soft in the float and a fifth up, dry and overdriven from the snap; another voice than Microsoft David is fine where one is easily to hand. The snap is the peak, in one cut, with no drum before it. Jev holds the fuse and sets how much of the strain shows, and nothing else; the strain is audible when it shows. The tapped lead leads and follows the chords; the words stay over the guitars; the chord in the decay and the last chord ring out; the float follows his section headings; each of his lines is sung once; no note sits on a grid; the ending does not go silent before the last chord."

49## Intent
50
51The words and the brief are **oASTEROIDo's**, posted in the Jev Discord on
522026-10-03 as a prompt for an AI song generator: a style line (the `brief`
53above) and lyrics whose section headings carry stage directions and a small
54physics of the song (a closed loop, tension coiled where it does not show,
55entropy rising, a critical point, the release, no return). Both are under
56"As posted", exactly as he wrote them. The song stays faithful to them. The
57brief's rules are the song's rules:
58
59- **Weightless until the peak.** Nothing heavy plays before the snap: no
60 distortion, no bass, no kick, no drum of any kind. The first drum of the
61 song is the snap. "No gradual heaviness."
62- **The tension is hidden.** It is stored under the calm, in a low
63 dissonance, and in the guitar's long tails.
64- **One hard cut, and it is the peak.** The snap comes out of two bars of
65 near silence, not out of a build, and nothing after it is louder than it
66 by more than 1 dB (Mix).
67- **No return.** After the snap the float comes back thin and hollow, with
68 nothing under it. "The quiet was the strain."
69- **No quantized grid.** The guitar wash is in sevens against the bar;
70 every note of the wash lands up to 20 ms late and of each tapped line up
71 to 8 ms (sixteenths at this tempo are 119 ms apart), by its own amount; the snap's kit is loose; the float's sung lines start
72 off the downbeat.
73
74**The maker's choices.** The pitch left two things open: a meme or
75faithfulness, and where Jev goes if there is a meme. The song is faithful,
76with one meme, and these two are the maker's, not oASTEROIDo's:
77
78- **The dog.** KC Green's dog in the burning room, "This is fine" (his
79 strip "On Fire", Gunshow, 2013), in the voice of Dana Snyder from
80 Shmorky's animated Adult Swim bumper (2016), for "you'd swear I'm fine"
81 and "I'm smooth on top and screaming underground". It speaks twice:
82 quietly at the end of the intro, and alone in the silence at the edge,
83 just before the snap. It is the only thing in the song that is not
84 oASTEROIDo's.
85- **The fuse.** Jev holds it. When the bridge ends, either the edge comes
86 now, or the float holds one more breath first: the hold, eight bars
87 without words. Either way the edge is then sung once ("one more breath of
88 floating / one more second clean / then"), and the snap follows it. Jev
89 also sets how much of the hidden strain shows in each section of the
90 float. After the snap nothing is Jev's, and the form has no way back,
91 which is the brief's "[S↑ irreversible]" as a rule in code.
92
93**The voice.** The brief asks for male vocals, sung. A speech voice
94(Piper's `en_US-ryan-high`, male) goes through a vocoder whose carrier is
95one voice following the line's melody in `score.abc`, a note a syllable,
96gliding from each to the next, an octave under the score as a male voice
97reads a treble clef:
98
99- **In the float** it is soft and wet: the sung carrier over a little of
100 the dry voice, in a long room with a delay.
101- **From the snap to the conversion** it is the same voice a fifth up,
102 dry and forward, overdriven, doubled a little sharp, with a scream layer
103 under it (the same tune with noise for a carrier above 300 Hz). It stays
104 within 2 dB of the guitars.
105- **In the return to float** it is the float's voice again, behind the
106 wash's 700 Hz high-pass.
107
108"Then." is the one line still spoken by Microsoft David on a held chord:
109Piper cannot say one short word alone (`samples/README.md`, `ck5c`). This
110is a synthesised voice on a tune, not a singer; a model that sings was not
111rendered for this revision ("For a model that sings").
112
113## As posted
114
115The style line:
116
117```
118experimental post-hardcore, math-rock, atmospheric, male vocals, ENVELOPE: weightless and floating the entire body, heaviness withheld until the peak, then one hard-cut snap into impact, [∮ closed loop], [T coiled hidden], [writhe↑], [dS/dt>0], [S→critical], [T→release], [U→KE], [dC/dt→∞], [S↑ irreversible], cosmic knot, topological tension stored invisibly in a calm field, entropy accumulating under the haze, the snap births structure, genesis and catastrophe at once, then a hollow spent float, no return, GUITAR ARC: warm hazy reverb-drenched clean wash, long cavernous reverberant string tails holding the coil, then at the snap liquid two-hand tapping bright major math-rock leads weaving fast, then heavy atmospheric cosmic impact, then thin hollow reverb-wash, floaty verses, hidden tension in the decay, sudden violent tonal snap at the peak, no gradual heaviness, weightless to crushing, sub-bass on impact only, spacious, tape warmth, no glossy polish, no quantized grid
119```
120
121The lyrics:
122
123```
124[Intro - Instrumental: ∮ loose closed loop, low entropy, warm hazy reverb-wash, weightless drift, no weight]
125
126[Verse 1: T coiled, strain hidden, floaty, soft reverb-drenched guitar]
127I float so still
128you'd swear I'm fine
129nothing in me moves
130nothing shows the line
131the quiet isn't peace
132it's just the holding on
133
134[Verse 2: writhe rising slow, crossings forming, still weightless, long string tails, cavernous decay]
135under all this calm
136the strands are pulling tight
137you can't hear it yet
138it hides inside the light
139something wound too far
140to ever look that wrong
141
142[PreBuild: dS/dt>0, entropy creeping, the smooth starting to load, haze thickening, tails stretching]
143the drift goes thick
144the still gets loud
145I'm smooth on top
146and screaming underground
147
148[Bridge - float deepening: K tightening, surface serene, loaded underneath, sustained dissonance buried low]
149this is the calmest
150I have ever been
151right at the edge
152of what I'm holding in
153the knot don't show its teeth
154till it's already done
155
156[The Edge: S→critical, unknotting threshold, last weightless breath, reverb suspended, the float at its stillest]
157one more breath of floating
158one more second clean
159then
160
161[SNAP — hard cut: T→release, U→KE, dC/dt→∞, liquid tapping weave ignites, crossings firing, the weight is BORN]
162it breaks
163all of it
164at once
165every strand let go
166the tapping tears the haze apart
167the float was always loaded
168now you know
169
170[IMPACT: structure precipitates from the release, heavy atmospheric cosmic, the asteroid lands, genesis and ruin]
171and out of the break
172a whole world stands
173matter from the tension
174galaxies from my hands
175the thing that broke me open
176is the thing that made the land
177
178[Conversion: tension→structure, |x|=max, the knot spent in one event, full weight, full impact]
179this is what I held
180this is what it weighed
181all that quiet drift
182was a fuse the whole way laid
183I made something
184the moment I gave way
185
186[Decay - Instrumental: dS/dt>0, entropy higher now, the impact ringing out, heavy tails decaying slow]
187
188[Return to float: drift again, S↑, the calm hollow now, spent, thin reverb-wash, weightless but empty]
189I'm floating again
190but it isn't the same
191the still is hollow now
192the knot gave up its name
193I can't get the quiet back
194the quiet was the strain
195
196[Outro - Instrumental: the field smooth but changed, entropy ↑, one reverb tail fading, the holding gone, no return]
197```
198
199## Style
200
201- 126 bpm, E major: E – C#m – A – B, two bars per chord, each with an added
202 ninth in the guitar, so each sung line sits on one chord.
203- **The wash**: a clean triangle-wave guitar, seven notes against eight
204 eighths, a long reverb and a dotted delay, slight vibrato (tape), each
205 note up to 20 ms late by its own amount. It follows his headings (the
206 Structure table quotes them): its tails lengthen from verse 2 (the
207 delay's feedback from 0.5 to 0.7, each note's release from 0.9 s to
208 2.2 s), a second voice an octave up thickens it in the pre-build and the
209 bridge, and at the edge it is alone again with almost no vibrato, the
210 stillest. In the return to float and the outro it is high-passed at
211 700 Hz, thin and hollow, and stays within 10 dB of the voice.
212- **The strain**: E and F a semitone apart, in two octaves (E2/F2 and,
213 quieter, E3/F3), a sawtooth behind a low-pass, held for a whole section
214 at a time, from verse 1 to the edge's sixth bar. It is written flat: it
215 does not grow by itself. Jev's four steps are 6 dB apart and open the
216 filter:
217
218 | Step | Level against the written one | Low-pass | |
219 |---|---|---|---|
220 | hidden | −12 dB | 240 Hz | inaudible |
221 | a trace | −6 dB | 330 Hz | felt more than heard |
222 | as written | 0 dB | 450 Hz | heard under the wash on good speakers |
223 | loaded | +6 dB | 650 Hz | plainly audible, on small speakers too |
224
225 Whether it grows, and when, is Jev's. It is gone at the snap and never
226 comes back. Nothing else is under the float: no kick, no bass, no
227 distortion before bar 49.
228- **The snap**: two tapped lines (square wave, short), one in sevens and one
229 in nines against the sixteenths, hard left and right, each figure on its
230 chord: the snap's loudest pitched part, within 3 dB of the drums. Under
231 them a broken sixteenth-note beat, two distorted stabs a bar, and the sub.
232- **The impact**: distorted chords held long, a half-time beat, a crash
233 where each of the three heavy sections lands. Under a sung line the held
234 guitars drop back (darker, and quieter in the bar the line starts in), so
235 the words stay within 2 dB of them.
236- **The sub** enters with the snap ("sub bass on impact only": nothing low
237 before the cut). It sits at 55 Hz or above (E2, C#2, A1, B1) and is a
238 sine with a quieter triangle an octave up, so it is heard on small
239 speakers.
240- **Ringing chords.** The chord that opens the decay rings four bars, and
241 the last chord, which lands as the outro opens, rings as long: both are
242 struck once and left to a long release, not cut at the bar.
243- **Mix.** Peaks under −1 dBFS, measured, set by one master level. The snap
244 measures at least 9 dB over the edge before it and within 1 dB of the
245 impact after it. The pre-build and the bridge are no quieter than verse
246 2. The outro is no lower than −32 dBFS. Measured twice on 2026-10-04 (dBFS, first and second run): the edge −28.2
247 and −27.3, the snap −17.6 and −17.6, the impact −17.7 and −17.9, the
248 conversion −16.9 and −17.1; verse 2 −27 and −26.6, the pre-build −26.7 and
249 −26.2, the bridge −25.9 and −25.4; the outro −29.3 and −29.3; peak −1.7
250 and −1.8.
251
252## Structure
253
25496 bars as written (~3:03), twelve 8-bar sections; 104 bars if Jev holds
255the fuse. His heading for each section is quoted.
256
257| Bars | Section | His heading | Contents |
258|---|---|---|---|
259| 1–8 | Intro | "∮ loose closed loop, low entropy, warm hazy reverb-wash, weightless drift, no weight" | The wash alone; on bar 7, quietly, "This is fine" |
260| 9–16 | Verse 1 | "T coiled, strain hidden, floaty, soft reverb-drenched guitar" | Lines 1–4; the strain comes in under the wash |
261| 17–24 | Verse 2 | "writhe rising slow, crossings forming, still weightless, long string tails, cavernous decay" | Lines 5–8; the wash's tails lengthen |
262| 25–32 | Pre-build | "dS/dt>0, entropy creeping, the smooth starting to load, haze thickening, tails stretching" | Lines 9–12; the wash doubled an octave up, longer tails, more vibrato |
263| 33–40 | Bridge | "float deepening: K tightening, surface serene, loaded underneath, sustained dissonance buried low" | Lines 13–16; the tails at their longest |
264| (105–112) | Hold | none: it is the maker's (Intent, "The fuse") | Only if Jev picks it, between the bridge and the edge: the wash doubled, its tails longer still, the strain at its most (the loaded step); no words |
265| 41–48 | Edge | "S→critical, unknotting threshold, last weightless breath, reverb suspended, the float at its stillest" | "One more breath of floating" / "One more second clean" / "Then" on bar 45; the wash alone and still; bars 47–48 nothing but its tail, and on bar 48 "This is fine" |
266| 49–56 | Snap | "hard cut: T→release, U→KE, dC/dt→∞, liquid tapping weave ignites, crossings firing, the weight is BORN" | The hard cut: tapped lines, broken beat, stabs, sub, crash; lines 20–23, the first an eighth after the hit |
267| 57–64 | Impact | "structure precipitates from the release, heavy atmospheric cosmic, the asteroid lands, genesis and ruin" | Held chords, sub, half-time, crash; lines 24–27 |
268| 65–72 | Conversion | "tension→structure, \|x\|=max, the knot spent in one event, full weight, full impact" | The impact with the tapping over it; lines 28–31 |
269| 73–80 | Decay | "dS/dt>0, entropy higher now, the impact ringing out, heavy tails decaying slow" | One chord and one hit on bar 73, ringing four bars over the wash; no words |
270| 81–88 | Return to float | "drift again, S↑, the calm hollow now, spent, thin reverb-wash, weightless but empty" | The wash thin and hollow, nothing under it; lines 32–35 |
271| 89–96 | Outro | "the field smooth but changed, entropy ↑, one reverb tail fading, the holding gone, no return" | One last chord on bar 89, fading over the hollow wash, which stops after bar 92 |
272
273The hold is written past a gap, at bars 105–112, because the form reads
274what follows a section as written from where it sits: it is not in the
275written order and plays only when Jev picks it.
276

320
321**Level.** Every sung line is within 1 dB of one integrated loudness,
322−19 LUFS (`ebur128`; the 35 measure −19.4 to −18.9), so the song's gains
323set how loud a section's words are, not the renders.
324
325**The keep rule.** A line is kept when whisper `small.en` and `medium.en`
326both read back every word of it (`samples/README.md` has each reading and
327what was typed to get it; a homophone counts). 34 of the 35 do. Line 10 is
328the exception: "The still gets loud" comes back as "This still gets loud"
329from `medium.en`, and as "This", "That" or "These still" from one model or
330both in each of five renders; the one kept is read right by `small.en`.
331
332## Jev in the booth
333
334Two jevs, declared at the top in TypeSafe's own shape (`jev({ state,
335questions })`), both given the song as state, asked every 8 bars:
336
337- **`formJev`** asks one choice: which **section** plays next. The form
338 leaves it one real choice, the fuse, and it is told to judge that on how
339 much of the strain has shown so far and on the listeners' reactions. The
340 section is drawn from Jev's own probabilities (`sample: 1`).
341- **`djJev`** asks, once that is decided (`after: { section }`), how much
342 of the **strain** shows in the section (the four steps under Style), and
343 is told to judge from how the sections so far measured and from the
344 listeners' reactions. It is asked only about sections the strain plays
345 in: verse 1 to the edge.
346
347Jev holds the fuse and sets the strain; nothing else is Jev's, and after
348the snap nothing is. There are no part levels: every part plays as
349written, so Jev cannot empty the snap or silence the float. There is no
350question about transitions and none about energy: the brief fixes both.
351The way into the snap is always the hard cut, and the song's weight is its
352form, not a dial.
353
354**The form.**
355
356| Section | Bars as written | May be followed by |
357|---|---|---|
358| `intro` | 1–8 | verse1 |
359| `verse1` | 9–16 | verse2 |
360| `verse2` | 17–24 | prebuild |
361| `prebuild` | 25–32 | bridge |
362| `bridge` | 33–40 | edge, hold |
363| `hold` | (105–112) | edge |
364| `edge` | 41–48 | snap |
365| `snap` | 49–56 | impact |
366| `impact` | 57–64 | conversion |
367| `conversion` | 65–72 | decay |
368| `decay` | 73–80 | returnToFloat |
369| `returnToFloat` | 81–88 | outro |
370| `outro` | 89–96 | (the end) |
371
372The cap is 13 sections, which is every section once. No section can
373repeat, so none needs a `times`. The only choice is the fuse. The edge,
374"Then.", the silence and the dog each play once, directly before the snap,
375and nothing after the snap leads back before it.
376
377**The parts.** Each plays on its own orbit, as written: `wash`, `strain`,
378`tap`, `heavy`, `bass`, `drums`, `vocals`. What a passage is made of has
379its own: the intro's wash (`opening`), the hold's strain (`holdStrain`),
380the chord and the hit that open the decay (`ringing`, `lastHit`), and the
381last chord (`ending`).
382
383Without Jev the song plays as written: the strain at its written step, no
384hold.
385
386## For a model that sings
387
388`score.abc` is the song as a score, in the shape of YuE2's own examples: a
389vocal voice with one note per syllable and a chord symbol per bar, and an
390instrumental voice carrying the left tapped line in the snap and the
391conversion. `yue2.json` holds his style line as the style and his lyrics
392with their headings, both as posted. The vocal melody is a plain arch per
393line on its chord (a fifth higher from the snap to the conversion): a
394starting point to edit, not a finished tune. The sung lines in `samples/`
395follow it. YuE2 (github.com/multimodal-art-projection/YuE, released
3962026-09-09) takes a style prompt, lyrics and an ABC melody-and-chord plan,
397and renders a sung song from them. It was not rendered for this revision.
